Because You Believed in Me - Lan's Story

Because You Believed in Me - Lan's Story

My name is Ngoc Lan and I am a member of Lighthouse, a home for female students over 18 years old. I was born into poverty. Since I was a child, life was full of struggle. We had to worry about every meal, every notebook, and every small need. My mother, who was weak and often sick, tried her best to raise me on her own after my parents separated.

Lan is a girl who was born into a difficult situation

I saw her skip meals and count every coin just to pay for my school fees. I still remember the tears in her eyes and in mine. I began to wonder if I should quit school so I wouldn’t be a burden anymore.

I have always had a dream of going to university

Just when I was about to give up my dream of going to university, a dream I had held onto for so long, you came into my life like a miracle. Quietly and gently, but with great power, Giving It Back to Kids gave me a new beginning. You gave me the chance to stay in school, to grow up in a place filled with love, dignity, and care?.

At GIBTK’s Home, I was able to grow and develop in every way

Because of you, I received more than just an education. I learned how to live with kindness. I learned the value of love, sharing, and becoming someone who is strong, patient, and full of purpose. I was able to live in a warm and caring environment where all my needs were taken care of.

I was able to live a full life, surrounded by wonderful people

Along the way, I was blessed to be guided by amazing people, Father Robert, the GIBTK team, and the house mothers, whose love and support helped shape me into the person I am today. They didn’t just support me, they walked with me, encouraged me, and helped me find my own light.

These people always motivated me every time I felt down

The life skills and emotional health classes, the many programs, and group activities didn’t just give me knowledge. They gave me confidence. They gave me a sense of belonging. They gave me hope.

Every step I took forward, I carried you with me, your love, your trust, your quiet sacrifices. You helped me understand that no one succeeds alone. Behind every success is the silent support of those who believe in us and give without asking for anything in return.

I confidently pursued my dream with GIBTK at my graduation ceremony

Now, as I prepare to enter a new chapter of life, I carry a promise in my heart. I will live in a way that is worthy of everything I’ve received. I will study hard, stay humble, and when I am strong enough, I will give back. Just as you lifted me, I will do my best to lift others. I dream that one day, I will become the light for someone else?, to pass on the flame of love and hope that you lit in me.

I am teaching special needs children, including those with autism and speech delays

To Father? Robert and all the staff of Giving It Back to Kids, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wish you peace, health, and strength as you continue your beautiful journey of changing lives.

Thank you for guiding me through my darkest nights and for showing me that love can truly transform a life.
