Breaking Barriers

Tiep, 33 years old, was born and raised in a rural area. Due to difficult family circumstances, at the age of 16, Tiep had to give up his dream of education and started working as an assistant with his father.

 

One day while working, Tiep got electrocuted and fell from scaffolding. This accident caused Tiep to suffer a spinal injury, resulting in a complete loss of mobility. For many years after that, Tiep experienced depression, always thinking of himself as a burden to his family and contemplating suicide.

Gradually, Tiep adapted to his new life, took care of himself, and had positive thoughts. He started learning computer skills and doing various online jobs to earn money. A friend helped Tiep modify his wheelchair with an attached engine so he could go to companies to apply for jobs. However, the requirement for formal education was still a barrier for him, as his knowledge was self-acquired from the internet.

In 2018, Tiep received a wheelchair from the Giving It Back To Kids (GIBTK). Knowing Tiep's passion, GIBTK, with the LS Program, sponsored him to study Information Technology to enhance his skills in graphic design, video editing, and using popular software. Additionally, GIBTK provided Tiep with a laptop for his studies. In October 2018, Tiep received his first graduation certificate in his life.

After completing the course, he worked online for a company specializing in Online Marketing communication. His daily tasks involved using software and tools to edit advertising images for partner companies' products. He can earn his own money. He really enjoys his job and continuously learn and explore new things to improve efficiency and productivity for better income. He’s very happy to have a stable job for a better life and to ease the financial burden for his elderly parents.

Thanks to the LS Program from GIBTK for creating a hopeful journey for him to work and live more positively. He’s living proof that small acts of kindness make a big difference.
